Profile

I grew up listening to what my parents did. My mom listened to a lot of oldies and The Beatles, while my dad listened to classic rock, namely Led Zeppelin and Yes. I listened to these and also to the alternative rock stations. Around the turn of the millennium, I lost the taste for a lot of popular radio rock, Ironically, my mom really liked (and continues to like) this. For a long time I just kind of wallowed in a radio daze, listening to many of the same songs over and over, for better and for worse. I never had a large CD collection of my own,so i was kind of trapped and music rally wasn't much more then something to listen to in a car. In high school, like so many, I began to download my music, mostly songs I already knew and liked. I also downloaded suggestions from the older kids, the most striking of which was Daft Punk. It really opened up my eyes that there was a whole world of music past commercial radio. Before then electronic music to me were just singles you could hear in the background of football games, not really a genre. As far as I knew music mostly consisted of pop/rock/hiphop and country. Now I look at most music as an amorphous blob, with artists picking and blending all sorts of styles together. I don't download anymore, but I try to listen to new music via internet radio and sites like last.fm and of course tuning into WRFL. I've never played an instrument as a hobby or skill, but music is becoming more and more of an interest.
