Profile
I grew up in Lexington and started listening to 88.1 about ten years ago. Then, I was a big fan of the underground hip-hop show on wednesday nights. Through high school (ended '04), I always turned my car radio dial to the left to hear shows like the Percy Trout radio hour and non-stop techno/electronica show on Saturday nights. My friends and I would love calling in to get the names of artists and songs. I remember once, one DJ was playing a Yes song that lasted about 25 minutes and I called in three times to make sure it was the same song (an awesome yet hilarious experience). One of my old friends, Tyler, used to do a funk show for WRFL (may still do it, haven't heard from him in a bit) and invited another buddy and me into the show a couple times to show us how the magic that 88.1 works. I just finished getting a bachelor's degree up in Cincinnati, but every time I have come back in town, whenever I get the chance, I tune in to WRFL. Now I'm working in Lexington and I plan to return to the world of academia this coming fall at UK. I love all kinds of music--alternative, classic rock, prog. rock, psych rock, funk, jazz (you get where I"m going--very open musical mind). Some of my favorite bands include; My Morning Jacket, Wilco, TV ot Radio, Pavement/Malkmus+Jicks, Silver Jews, Black Keys, White Stripes, Frank Zappa, The Clash, Modest Mouse, Bonnie Prince Billy, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Radiohead, Portishead, the early Kings of Leon albums and much more...Some of my latest album investments include, Bonnie PB's "The Letting Go", TVotR's "Dear Science", and The Clash's "Sandinista". Anyways, I've always supported 88.1 and its endeavors and I salute Radio Free Lexington. I have a little free time---I'm willing to volunteer and I'd be incredibly interested in helping out.
