Local Artist: Ivy Rye

Lexington alt-rock band, Ivy Rye, came to play on WRFL Live on Wednesday, August 24. They played some of their favorite singles, including “Cloudz,” “Voodoo,” and “Sally.” Their groovy, alternative-rock style got listeners jamming to this new, up and coming band.

Band members include:

Deven Roberts- Lead vocalist

Christopher Wheeler- Bass

Skyler Hill- Drums

Colin Michael- Vocalist and guitarist

Ivy Rye loves their guitar solos, gradual percussions and bass build ups. Many of the band’s songs combine their instrumental heavy rock with rap, but it never feels out of place. They give off a local version of Panic! at the Disco mixed with early Twenty One Pilots, creating a familiar yet wholly original vibe. Some of Ivy Rye’s favorite bands that they draw inspiration from include Tyler Childers, Highly Suspect, Twenty Pilots and Hiatus Kaiyote.

Ivy Rye is currently working on a solid formula as a method to write. Usually their songs are made up of numerous improvised brainstorms as a group. Beginning with some chord progressions, the band then adds lyrics, then finally, the instrumentals. The band members agree they are all pretty different stylistically, which makes each of them stand out.

Ivy Rye has been together for a year and a half. They have performed local shows at Al’s Bar, The Burl, Cosmic Charlie’s, and more. They are currently working on two singles to release soon.
